What is functional medicine? And what’s the difference between functional medicine and conventional medicine?

The traditional, conventional standard of care practiced by most physicians today is oriented toward acute care: diagnosing and treating trauma or illness that’s typically of short duration and requires urgent care. (Good examples are appendicitis and a broken leg.) Physicians apply specific treatments such as prescription medications or surgery to treat the immediate problem or symptom.

On the other hand, functional medicine addresses the underlying causes of disease using a systems-oriented approach that engages the patient and doctor in a therapeutic partnership. This 21st-century approach is an evolution in the practice of medicine, which better addresses today’s healthcare needs. Click to learn more.

What is Omnia Health’s COVID protocol?

At Omnia Health we are taking extra precautions and implementing COVID guidelines. We respect the safety of our team, our patients, and our community. All guests will have mandatory symptom screenings and sign a liability release form as they come into the office. The front desk as well as the health practitioners will be wearing masks in the office.

We will take additional precautions in sanitizing and wiping down the lab room, front desk area and appointment rooms before and after each patient arrives. If you are uncomfortable coming into the office or immune compromised in any way, we are doing online video visits as well.

How do I know if I’m a fit? Will functional Medicine work for me? What should I expect?

We have patients from all over the Denver, Colorado area and most of them experience significant improvements.  But every individual is different so consider this…

  • Functional medicine works best when you see us as your partner in health.
  • You can expect to complete a detailed, comprehensive health history intake form. This form must be completed prior to your initial appointment, or the appointment will be rescheduled.
  • You can expect to undergo the laboratory tests we recommend. (We test; we don’t guess.) You pay for lab tests directly, and we’ll discuss pricing with you. If you don’t undergo these tests, we cannot do our job. We need this data to identify the root cause of your issue and create your health plan. (Read more about lab testing in the FAQ below.) 
  • Functional medicine is about looking at various areas of your life. Please be open and honest about your health, relationships, and other lifestyle factors.
  • You can expect to actively make improvements to various aspects of your lifestyle such as nutrition, exercise, sleep habits, and stress management.
  • You can expect to “invest in yourself” and pay for the program you join (Essentials Program or The Omnia Consultation) as well as the first round of lab tests, medical-grade nutritional supplements and, often, a second round of certain lab tests.
  • You can expect us to be here for you. We recognize that we ask our patients to implement new health habits, follow specific nutritional plans, commit to an exercise regimen, take steps to manage their stress, and find ways to create better sleep habits. We know that implementing these lifestyle changes can be overwhelming. That’s where our health coaching comes in. Our certified health coaches provide motivation, accountability, and resources. Yes, making changes to your lifestyle and your health can be difficult, but we’re here for you. We’re your health team.
Can Jacqui Pariset, MD be my primary care doctor in the Denver area?

Yes! Dr. Jacqui Pariset has been trained in family medicine. Our primary care program is a top of the line service that includes disease prevention, health maintenance, counseling, patient education and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses, or what we call, functional medicine.

Dr. Pariset goes a step above the conventional medical system to provide you with preventative medicine education such as cancer and heart disease prevention. She’ll talk to you about the best ways you can obtain optimal health. Of course, every step of the way is personalized and determined by your health goals, lab results, genetics, family health history etc.

What types of health concerns do you address? Can you help me?

At Omnia Health, we don’t treat diseases, we treat people. That’s how functional medicine works. That said, our patients come to us with a variety of health challenges. To pinpoint the root cause, we start with a comprehensive health history, listen to your concerns, take a close look at lifestyle factors, and ask you to undergo laboratory testing. This insight enables us to create your personalized health plan – and help us guide you to improved health.

Examples of health issues we treat with a functional medicine approach include:

If I become an Omnia patient, what kind of results can I expect from a functional medicine approach?

Assuming you are motivated and committed to follow your health plan and adjust lifestyle factors, you should achieve optimal higher functioning. Our patients report having more energy, more clarity of thought, better mood stability, and optimized weight management. Functional medicine is a two way street.

We’re here to do the testing, educate you, and guide you toward the right foods, supplements and medicine when necessary but then you need to do your part. That starts with clear and direct communication with us so we can get to the core issues you are facing. We never pressure or shame a patient or but we do whatever we can to give you that gentle nudge to keep you inspired and self-motivated.

What are your office hours?

What are your office hours?

We are open Monday-Thursday from 8:30AM-5:00PM. If you are coming in without an appointment to pick up supplements, prescriptions, tests or to ask a question we encourage you to always give the office a call before you stop by. We’re excited to teach you more about our functional medicine approach to your wellbeing! Contact us here.

Can Omnia Health refer me to a specialist?

We work closely with a handful of outside specialists and will refer you when applicable. For example, if you need to see an OBGYN, surgeon or psychiatrist. These outside services are not covered in your Omnia Health program. 

Can I use my FSA or HSA for my membership or other costs?

Yes! Many of our patients use their FSA/HSA to pay for membership fees, specialty tests, and supplements. We are happy to provide any additional information you may need. 

What type of diagnostic testing does Omnia Health do?

We offer both standard blood work and specialty testing to help create a comprehensive picture of your health. A personalized testing plan will be recommended by your Omnia Health practitioner. Some of our most frequently prescribed specialty tests assess nutrient levels, cortisol, hormones, microbiome health, mold toxicity and toxic metal levels.

Functional medicine in Denver works best with real data. That’s why we always say, “We don’t guess, we test!” 

What is a health coach?

Our health coaches are trained to work with our patients around all lifestyle factors such as sleep, relaxation, exercise/movement, stress, nutrition and relationships. These lifestyle factors have a significant and direct correlation to your health. Like we’ve said before, functional medicine is a team sport and every team needs a coach! 

Working with a health coach is imperative for your success at Omnia Health. They help you gain a better understanding of your treatment plan and they act as your accountability partner. Your new lifestyle commitments will become a whole lot more doable with an Omnia Health coach at your side!

What is NOT included in the cost?

Lab tests and blood work (Omnia patients get direct lab pricing; refer to the FAQs below)

  • Nutritional supplements (based on your test results, we may recommend medical-grade supplements)
  • Prescription medications and over-the-counter (OTC) medications
  • Specialist care (e.g., cardiology, pulmonary, rheumatology)
  • Emergency care/after-hours care (emergency care needs should be addressed by an urgent care facility or hospital emergency room)
Can you tell me more about functional lab tests and blood work?

A favorite motto: We test; we don’t guess. Based on your health concerns and health history, Dr. Jacqui Pariset will decide which types of laboratory tests are necessary. You can expect to pay for an initial round of lab tests and, often, a second round of specific tests to check progress or confirm changes. You pay for lab tests directly, and we’ll discuss pricing with you. Most functional medicine/advanced diagnostic labs are NOT covered by insurance. We will do our best to make sure you understand the cost of all lab tests prior to ordering them. Functional lab testing is different from traditional testing, because it helps us identify the root cause of your health challenges instead of simply making a diagnosis. This testing is done through urine, stool, saliva and/or blood samples.

Regarding lab tests, what does ‘direct lab pricing’ mean?

To provide the most affordable care possible, Omnia Health has made special arrangements with our lab testing providers to give you direct lab pricing. In other words, you pay the provider directly, with no markup whatsoever from Omnia Health. This arrangement helps to ensure the lowest price possible on all lab tests.

Do you accept health insurance?

We do not bill health insurance. Patients pay fees to Omnia Health directly for programs, one-time office visits, other services, and nutritional supplements. We always provide receipts, which you may choose to submit to your insurance company. As a reminder, you pay for lab testing directly; you may choose to submit those receipts to your health insurance company. Check with your insurance company to clarify which lab tests are covered. Functional medicine is about digging deeper into the core causes of the health issues you may be facing. And, that effort takes time. Typical health insurance does not cover this approach. 

What is the Living Matrix Health History intake form?

We’ll ask you to begin completing this comprehensive health history intake form immediately after signing up for the Essentials Program or The Omnia Consultation. This highly detailed, online intake form must be completed in full, prior to any consultations or lab tests. The form takes about 60-90 minutes to complete. (You can answer a few questions at a time; just save it as you go!) When you sign up for one of Omnia’s programs, you’ll receive instructions to create an online Living Matrix account and, if you wish, watch an instructional video. Most likely, the Living Matrix Health History is the most comprehensive intake form you’ve ever filled out. Yet it’s critical that we receive a complete, detailed picture of your medical, social, nutritional, and lifestyle history. We ask that you complete the Living Matrix at least 3 days prior to your initial consultation. If it is not completed, we will reschedule your appointment.

What is the Patient Portal?

As a patient of Omnia Health, you have access to all of your lab test results, appointment information, and health plan via our online Patient Portal. When you sign up for the Essentials Program or The Omnia Consultation, you will receive a link to the Patient Portal with instructions to access your confidential information.

Why does Omnia Health stress the importance of lifestyle and nutrition?

We believe as much as 80% of your clinical outcome is based on your nutrition along with other lifestyle factors. Because we realize the value of this and the impact it has on you and your family, we emphasize lifestyle and nutrition throughout our process. By taking better care of yourself, you can lead your family to better health.

Omnia Health is based on functional medicine. That means we’re really focused on long-term solutions and discovering the deeper causes of health problems. 

Do you offer supplements?

After reviewing your lab results and evaluating your mineral and nutrient demands, we may recommend a personalized supplement program. Our recommendations will include only the highest quality products – medical-grade nutritional supplements – to create more predictable outcomes.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Please bring recent and pertinent medical records to your initial consultation.

How much do additional visits cost?

After completing the Essentials Program, you may wish to schedule follow-up visits with Omnia’s health practitioners: additional visits with Dr. Jacqui and Gia are $300/hour, and visits with our health coaches are $119/hour. Note that The Omnia Consultation is a highly focused assessment to optimize your health; geared for “optimizers” this includes a one-time consultation with no follow-up visits.

As a patient, do I have email access to Omnia practitioners?

We’ve found that having access to our health team – Dr. Jacqui Pariset, Gia (our nurse practitioner), and our health coaches – helps to keep an open dialogue and helps our patients maintain momentum throughout their program. We encourage our patients to email Omnia team members with any questions they may have throughout the duration of their program.

I don’t live in metro Denver or Colorado. Can I participate in Omnia’s programs?

Yes, by all means! We have a large number of patients who live throughout Colorado, along with a surprising number of patients who live in other states. We request that your initial visit is in-person. All follow-up consultations can be virtual via our Telemedicine technology. So whether you live in Englewood, Golden, Littleton, Loveland, or anywhere in the Denver area, we’d love to see you. What is your appointment cancellation policy?

Life happens. We ask that you respect our time, and we will respect yours. Please let us know as soon as possible if you need to cancel or change an appointment. We will do the same.
